First minted in 1866, the Shield Nickel produced some rarities, including the "with Rays" 1867 proof. The Liberty Nickel was first minted in 1883, and concluded in 1912, with a clandestine mintage of 5 Nickels in 1913. The 1913 Nickels are undoubtedly the rarest Nickels ever produced.
