After a 3 year hiatus where only Special Mint Sets were sold, the mint began producing proof sets again, however, for the first time at the San Fransisco Mint. Several rare No "S" proof sets were issued during these years. All sets were now encased in a rigid plastic container. Quality improved, and after 1977 virtually every proof coin produced is a deep cameo.
